Hiya!

As a Samsung users for 11 YEARS since my first smartphone, switching to an iPhone was a big deal. I thought about it for months, and finally decided to make my iPhone my first purchase using ADuLt money.

Some context behind my decision:

I had a S20+ before, but it died on me within a year. :( I was hesitant to splurge on another expensive phone again, so I settled for the Samsung A53 next. It worked generally fine for the next 2+ years…but there were some deal breakers. 1️⃣ My hobby and work both require me to take photos/videos, so poor camera quality was a hassle. 2️⃣ A53 doesn’t support esim, so it was a tad more inconvenient to get roaming/sim card when travelling.

👍🏻 WORTH THE SWITCH

> Camera 📷

Compared to my old phone, where I had to get the right lighting and angles, it’s SO easy to make photos look good now?! And it snaps the photo really quickly, no awkward lag time. I really had enough of grainy video quality…even compared to the most expensive Samsung phones, though the quality can be sharp, iPhone colours still look more natural. Haven’t gone too much into exploring all the functions, but just the normal, portrait and cinematic modes have been amazing already.

> Airdrop💧

I was taken aback by how fast large videos could be transferred. Like huh?? In a few seconds? Versus if I had to download them from telegram 😫

> NFC for Payment & Transport 🚌

I was disappointed to find out that express travel card doesn’t work in SG. But it’s still quick and convenient to open apple wallet for payment. What I appreciate the most - how fast it’s detected by the reader! No more awkwardly hovering my phone over the reader on the bus with other passengers waiting behind me…

> The ECOSYSTEM between devices 🌎

Having owned an iPad and then a macbook before, I already had a taste of how seamless working between apple devices was. For example, copying from one device and pasting on the other is a simple thing that really added on to the convenience and experience!

👎🏻 MY SAMSUNG WAS BETTER…

> No clipboard 📋

I was quite devastated :( I relied heavily on copying multiple things onto my clipboard and looking for them afterwards, so I had to adapt to not using my clipboard as a more convenient notes page…

🤷🏻‍♀️ GOOD AND BAD

> Gallery 🏞️

It’s just really messy and I agree with the bad reviews on it. Among others: unnecessary sections, folders at the bottom, videos not full screen. Quite a pain to navigate imo. I know it can be customised, but that’s extra effort too. Only good thing - scrubbing through videos is more seamless and precise than on Samsung.

> Face ID 👀

Was a bit bummed that iPhone doesn’t have a fingerprint option, but I do think that the Face ID generally works better than my previous phones’. Though it still can’t work at certain angles…like when it’s placed on my table.

Apart from these points, what held me back previously was 1️⃣ I thought iPhones were really expensive, but tbh, it’s around the same price as other brands’ best-range phones. 2️⃣ I’m super clumsy and I used to drop my phone EVERY DAY. Along with my impression that iPhones are super brittle, I was worried I’d destroy it, but for now, I’m surviving with a cute phone strap :”)

I also considered getting iPhone 15 Plus secondhand, but after my friend’s (Apple staff) Friends and Family discount, the difference wasn’t that big, so I went ahead with 16 Plus! 🙏🏻

👩🏻‍⚖️ My final verdict: still damn worth it. 💯

If you have the same concerns/needs as me, perhaps it’s time to make the switch too! 🫡
