budget airbnb + hotel recommendation

☁️ st kilda airbnb

$130+ / night

we chose an airbnb slightly away from the city as it's comparatively cheaper! here are the pros and cons of this place:

✅ super clean and pretty, looks exact to the advertised photos

✅ necessities all provided, host even provided food and drinks to snack on / cook

✅ bedrooms are of decent size + comfy

✅ toilet is clean, washing machine and dryer provided

✅ host is friendly and nice

✅ though located away from city central, there's a tram stop right opposite the apartment so it's very convenient to travel about + doesn't take very long to reach the city

✅ 7-11, family mart and restaurants walking distance from the apartment

❌ dining table has no lights so it's super dark - if you're intending to cook, you'll have to eat on the floor using the coffee table (which wasn't too bad tbh)

❌ secondary bedroom has no aircon / heater so you'll have to open the door and use the living room one

☁️ best western travel inn

$200+ / night

we booked this 1 day before reaching melbourne due to a sudden change in plans so $200+ is very reasonable for a 1 queen bed + 1 single bed room

✅ super near city central

✅ lots of cafes, restaurants and convenient stores nearby

✅ clean

✅ there's a pool and dining hall for you to relax at

✅ staffs are friendly

❌ pretty small so it gets quite squeezy

❌ toilet is quite cramped

overall, both airbnb and hotel we stayed at were very pleasant but i'd still recommend booking an airbnb instead because it's a lot cheaper and bigger! for cheaper airbnbs, you can consider the st kilda location - it's not inconvenient to travel around and you can explore areas nearby too like the st kilda beach and market 👍🏻
