when most people think taiwan, they think night markets and street food, but did you know taiwan cafes are just as good and honestly better because most of them are only known by locals so they’re pretty quiet — best places to chill at after going to crowded places 🤍 here are the 4 cafes we visited:

1️⃣ sleepy tofu

my absolute fav out of the 4, from the vibes to the food everything was just amazing! i love the minimal aesthetics of the place as well as how quiet it was, when we reached at around 11-12, there was only 1 other customer. as for the food, they mainly sell sandwiches and desserts, since we already had brunch, we decided to go for desserts! we got the steamed egg cakes, soy sundae, iced hojicha latte, honey wheat latte and they gave us soy tofu pudding on the house too! the steamed egg cakes and drinks were pretty average but the soy sundae and tofu pudding were the highlights 🤤 they were so flavourful but not too jelak — the sundae had some sweet and salty biscuit, mochi and brown sugar konjac which all went super well with the soy ice cream (PS i couldn’t stop thinking about this sundae my whole trip in TW HAHAH)🍦as for the tofu pudding it was paired with some brown sugar syrup and omg PERFECT!! however, i didn’t see this on the menu so i’m not too sure if you’re able to order it when you’re there :”)

2️⃣ soypresso

like i said, i couldn’t stop thinking about sleepy tofu’s soy sundae so i decided to find another soy milk dessert place in taipei ☁️ definitely did not taste as amazing but still a really good soy ice cream! my friend did find it too thick but it was pretty nice for me 🥹 if you don’t like super thick soy flavour, you can go for their other flavours like brown sugar, strawberry, etc 🍓

3️⃣ le sommet cafe and patisserie

another place with a gorgeous interior, it’s definitely giving more luxe vibes which explains their pricing. a little more expensive compared to other places but if you’re sharing with friends it’s still not too bad! we got their signature pastry dessert and 2 drinks and our total was 30++ SGD 💸 but i have to say, their pastry was amazing!! the flavour of it changes monthly depending on the fruit in season, last month was figs and this month it’s strawberries 🍓 their pastry base is so fragrant and i love that they added milk cream and berries cream to it! my fav was the milk cream because it was so rich and goes really well with the strawberry + pastry🥛

4️⃣ la chaudiere

on to the last cafe! again i feel like this is a place only locals will go because we didn’t see / recognise any tourist when we were walking around the area, the cafe itself is pretty quiet too! but their desserts are super yumz 😩 we got their tiramisu, matcha donut cake, matcha latte and black sesame latte. their drinks were meh, the matcha latte tasted like milk and the black sesame latte just tasted like

normal latte HAHAH but plus points for using milk ice cubes instead of normal water! on the other hand, their tiramisu was creamy and flavourful, not too sweet and the alcohol taste wasn’t overpowering as well 👍🏻 but i would say the best dish is their matcha donut cake — the matcha cream was so decadent and the cake is super moist! i love how they added some black sesame cream because it goes super well together and gives the whole cake an extra depth of flavour🔅
