I chose Lilac on purpose!

So this was for the marriage rite. It was basically a graduation in the church saying we completed our pre marriage classes

for those of you that don’t know I am a very young widow…

Well I occasionally do like to dig up old traditions. I find the Victorian era fascinating with how many rules they had to follow for proper etiquette. Luckily we don’t follow a lot of them today.

We don’t have a set time for wearing black when mourning, nor do we have rules on when is a proper time for a man vs a woman to remarry.

But among all the hundreds and thousands of rules they had, I discovered this. In that era of time, after the proper waiting period (which was 3 whole years mind you, she had to wear black in that time and couldn’t even date), it was traditional for the widow to wear lilac on her wedding day.

Now even though, obviously this wasn’t my wedding day, I thought it would be neat to acknowledge that tiny piece of history with myself. I will be getting married just shy of the 3 year mark. But this is 2023. We don’t have rules like that anymore, thank heaven! 😅
