hey zesties!
everyone and their mothers were in taiwan last december and i am no different π«’ but this time in taiwan, i had a side quest and that was to get INKED >:)
my design inspo
taiwan is my favourite country and i was in fact in taiwan the summer of 2022 for an internship [more on it here!] and there's a scene that was really etched in my mind and that was a hydrangea field at Yangmingshan in Taipei! i really just happened to visit during the hydrangea season and i fell in love with that scene so much, photographs from that moment became my lock screen, and my DP for a good amount of time HAHAHA
Hydrangeas are not only beautiful but also a really meaningful flower! Hydrangeas as a species represent family, friendship, and unity, and the individual hydrangeas colours have their own special meanings too β¨
Blue: Resilient love, gratitude, understanding, apology
Pink: Strong women, romance, true and sincere emotions
White: one-minded love, resilient love, purity and grace
Purple: eternal unity
Green: one-minded love, resilient love
(Just a summary from a few English and Traditional Chinese sources)
I thought that the meanings of hydrangeas are as pretty as they look and with that, the thought hit me: i want to get it tattooed on me in Taiwan!
i started doing my research on tattoo artists, including their styles, i looked at their healed photos from 1 month to a few years (usually in their IG Highlights) and I reached out to @ goomo_tattoo on IG since her style and budget met my expectations (my budget was $500, i was quoted TWD$5500β$230... fyi i asked a Korean tattoo artist previously with the same brief and they quoted me SGD$2000 HAHAHA CRAY)
I showed the artist my sample photograph and discussed how i wanted the tattoo to look like (I wanted a watercolour and crayon type of hand drawn look)
2 days before the appointment, the tattoo artist sent me 2 sample drawings and I picked the one i liked the most and suggested some changes (e.g. more pink and blue) and then to the studio i went!
since I can't dip in a hot spring or a hot tub or swim for 2 weeks after getting the tatt, i went to dip in a hot spring first thing in the morning that day HAHAHA
on the day of the appointment, I was honestly quite nervous since it's my first ever tattoo and i was also in a foreign country π«¨
surprisingly i got used to the pain and it was honestly quite therapeutic and calming after a while??? honestly could've fallen asleep during my appointment UNTIL the artist got started on the yellow ink π βπΌ
apparently, lighter coloured inks tend to be thicker in nature if not it wouldn't be visible enough on the skin (understandably)
i'd rate the pain a 3/10 overall and maybe a 5/10 for the yellow ink specifically!
swipe to see the fresh and healed photos β¨ my tattoo is 4 months old and i must say i do love it and it really feels like it's a part of me
I'm in love with my tatt π«ΆπΌπ₯Ή will you ever get a tattoo? what will you get? let me know in the comments below! β¬οΈ
(I wrote most of this post when my tatt was still fresh, and updated it after i hit my 3 month mark to make sure I'm not regretting or missing anything out)
π«ΆπΌ,
sher
