Decolonizing My Faith: My 1st Prayer Walk

I’m a 36 year old Black woman. At about 18, I started going to church every Sunday. It has been about 7 years since I last went to church regularly. I went again this year but I just didn’t like it much.

In the past 7 years, however, I’ve still read my Bible and found myself growing so close to God. My relationship with the highest version of myself has shown up.

My Bible studies encourage me to do what the church never did: believe in myself because God is in me, take risks, put myself first, actualize the version of myself that can be, have standards, and to think big and then bigger.

But sometimes I get really anxious and I revert back to small thinking because that’s what the church wants from me, because it’s what the world wants from me.

I’m a Black woman and I refuse to live small.
