1 Day in Old San Juan

Old San Juan is an extremely walkable city, so it’s easy to make your way around in just one day. Here’s what I recommend you do:

Walk around admiring all this colorful city.

Some of the best streets for photos are Calle de la Cruz, Caleta de las Monjad and Calle San Justo.

El Castillo San Felipe del Morro

This 16th-century fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Puerto Rico.

Castillo San Cristóbal

Built in 1783 by the Spanish, it’s the largest fortification covering 27 acres of land. It will take you back centuries, making you feel like you’re in a different time.

Be a Tourist

Go souvenir shopping and take a touristy photo in front of the I LOVE PR and I LOVE SJ signs. You know you want to!

Save a Gato

This local cat sanctuary is home to many rescued strays from the streets of Old San Juan. It’s free to visit but donations are appreciated.

Bustling Nightlife

If you enjoyed Old San Juan during the day, just wait until the sun sets! Old San Juan comes alive with a vibrant nightlife. There are tons of bars and clubs to choose from, so you’re sure to find one that suits your taste. Start at Calle San Sebastián - it’s closed off to traffic & lined with bars.
