5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Visiting Budapest

1 - Even though it’s a European country, Hungary has its own currency - the Hungarian Forint (HUF). Some places will still accept euros, but not all.

2 - Uber was banned in Hungary in 2016, and Lyft never operated there. Download BOLT instead - it’s a very similar type of taxi app.

3 - Budapest is made of two sides separated by the Danube River - Buda and Pest. Buda is the quieter, calmer, more residential side where you’ll find the Parliament Building, Szechenyi Thermal Bath and the zoo. Pest, on the other hand, is livelier and more touristy. Pest has the Fisherman’s Bastion, Buda Castle and Matthias Church.

4 - The Parliament Building doesn’t stay lit up all night long. The lights turn on around sunset, but they’re off by midnight.

5 - The famous Szechenyi Thermal Baths is not like hot tub water. It’s just luke warm. Bring your own towel or you’ll have to pay to rent one.
