DETAILS:
Medium Dior Saddle Bag in Black Calfskin
(bought before they introduced the strap)
BACKGROUND:
soo I bought the Dior saddle bag on my trip to Paris in April earlier this year. To be honest I kind of bought it on a whim, it was a bag I had wanted but didn’t fully think through every single consideration. I bought it at the Dior flagship boutique at 30 Avenue Montaigne - super pretty space, worth a visit even if you aren’t planning to buy anything!
PRICE:
I paid €2,552 after tax refund which is around SGD $3,635. The bag cost €2,900 before tax refund, so about SGD $4,130. So tax refund saved me around $500 (rounded up).
The saddle bag retailed in Singapore for around $4,800~ish before they included the new strap. I don’t have the exact figure on the old price, but I definitely saved at least $1,000!
REVIEW:
Pros:
– It’s relatively easy to style, it goes with most outfits – but it’s also worth noting that sometimes you have to plan your outfit around the bag!
– Everything about the bag is iconic - from the shape, to the asymmetric flap, to the logo hardware that connects the handle to the body of the bag - it’s really impossible to replicate.
– Can fit all my essentials: cardholder, sanitizer, lipstick and compact. I can fit my portable charger in, but it makes the bag look much bulkier.
– It’s a classic piece that won’t go out of style
Cons:
– I only wear silver jewelry, so the gold hardware can clash with the sliver quite drastically
– The bag on it’s own is heavier than it looks! With all my essentials in the bag, it makes my shoulders hurt sometimes
– Looks a little weird at the bottom, especially when the bag is more packed
– Difficult to reach into and quickly take out your items due to the nature of the flap design
– Bought it under the impression that it could be an everyday bag, but it’s definitely not
Overall: I love this bag and I definitely think its a classic, but it’s more of a statement piece than an everyday bag. So yes, I’m not sure it’s worth the price in Singapore, but I think it’s worth the $3,600~ I paid for. I’d really recommend doing a lot of research into this bag (don’t be like me hahaha) before you decide on buying it. I don’t regret purchasing it, but I also feel like I haven’t gotten the full mileage out of it yet.
