CHEF’S KISS: The best Korean bar restaurant in SG

i’ve been wanting to try anju for a while now, and i’m so happy to have finally tried it to celebrate my friend’s birthday!

anju refers to the food / side dishes you eat to pair with drinks, so i was pleasantly surprised that each dish was still pretty substantial!

ambience —

the restaurant replicates traditional Korean elements with a modern twist, with lantern lamps and wood at its forefront. the lighting and ambient music made it a really good environment for deeper conversations.

price —

we ordered a total of 2 appetisers, 1 main and 1 bottle of makgeolli, and the damage came up to around $90 per pax after gst and service charge.

food —

every single dish wowed our palettes. the yukhoe was tender with bits of korean pear and egg yolk adding that umami flavour to every bite. we also devoured the squid-battered fried oysters quickly, and even saved the spicy fish roe cream sauce to attempt to pair with our pasta. the abalone seaweed pasta was refreshing too, but the abalone was a tad too fishy for me (i’m generally sensitive to fishy tastes).

if i were to rank the dishes:

oysters > abalone seaweed pasta > yukhoe

drink —

we ordered the lotus makgeolli, which came with the distinct nutty flavour of the traditional liquor, plus a hint of white florals. at $30 for a bottle, it was sufficient to pair and last us till our food was completed.
