Hey everyone! I’m back after being hiatus for awhile😛
Can you believe how fast time flies? So much has changed for me this past year. If you have follow my journey here on #Lemon8Malaysia I went from taking my final exams as a student to graduating, and now I’ve started my first adult job!
I just got my first paycheck and I’m excited to share how I budget my income as a single adult in my early 20s with no major responsibilities hehe
📱The Tools I Use:
1. Notion
2. Spending Tracker - Budget app
👉Step 1: Organize with Notion.
Notion is my go-to for organizing my spending and savings. Here’s how I use it:
1. Input Income: First, I add my total income for the month. This month i take home RM3350
2. Compulsory Spendings: Next, I list all my compulsory expenses like savings, rent, and subscriptions and more. These are expenses that I can’t avoid. I total these up and the amount is RM2092.
3. Wants and Extras: The remaining money after covering compulsory expenses is RM1257.90, this amount is what I use for my “wants” spendings FOR THE MONTH. Like shopping, groceries, dining out, etc.
👉Step 2: Track Weekly with a Budget Tracker App.
For keeping track of my budget, I prefer doing it weekly. It helps me stay on top of my spending. Here’s how I break it down:
- Remaining Money: After my compulsory expenses, I have RM 1257.9 left.
- Weekly Budget: I divide this amount by 4, which gives me RM 314.47 per week. This is my budget for food, transport, shopping and other miscellaneous expenses.
🍀Why I do weekly budgeting?
I find that tracking my budget weekly is much easier and helps me stay disciplined. It’s like a fun challenge every week to see how well I can stick to my budget hahah
🌷Why No Specific Budget for Wants?
You might wonder why I don’t have a specific budget for categories like shopping, groceries, transport, food, and drinks. Since I don’t have major responsibilities #AtMyAge, I trust myself to spend wisely. My spending can vary—some weeks I might not spend much on food and drinks because I don’t eat out often. This flexibility works for me, and I adjust my spending based on what I need each week. And of course, if there are remaining RM left on my budget that i didnt spend for the week, i will put it in my savings/investment accounts.
That’s my simple and fun #BudgetingLife routine! How do you manage your budget? Share your tips in the comments below! 😊
Stay tuned for more updates and tips from my journey into adulthood!
Happy budgeting! 💰✨
