Since recovering from several rounds of antibiotics that essentially left me with crippling anxiety and depression, I have been doing nonstop research DAILY and talking to a few gastroenterologists to heal my microbiome and gut to brain axis. It’s been 10 long months but I’m slowly recovering and love to help others who might have gone through something similar or if they’re just wanting to become a little healthier.

There’s a ton of good that can help heal and restore your gut. These are just a few staples I kept in my house this past year.

1. Bone Broth - It contains collagen, amino acids, and minerals that can soothe and repair the gut lining and reduce inflammation. Imagine your tummy is like a garden. A healthy garden has lots of good plants (like good bacteria) that help it grow strong. Sometimes, things like junk food, antibiotics or stress can hurt the “garden” (microbiome) and make it hard for the “plants” (good bacteria) to grow. Bone broth is like fertilizer for your garden. It's made by cooking bones in water for a long time, and it has lots of helpful nutrients. When you drink bone broth, it gives your tummy the food it needs to help the good bacteria grow and keep the “garden” healthy.

2. Sourdough bread - sourdough contains prebiotics, which feed the healthy bacteria in your gut. When you eat it, it can support a balanced microbiome and help improve digestion and better stabilize the connection between your gut and brain. Your gut has a lot of tiny nerves and is home to many bacteria that send messages to your brain. When you eat, your gut tells your brain how to feel—like happy, full, or even sleepy. The brain can also send messages back to the gut, helping it work better. So, what you eat can affect how you feel, and how you feel can affect your tummy!

3. Ginger Lemon Tea - ginger helps with digestion. It can soothe your tummy and reduce feelings of nausea. Lemon adds vitamin C, which is great for your immune system. Together, they can help keep things moving in your digestive system, reduce bloating, reduce inflammation to your gut lining, and make you feel better overall.

4. Fermented Carrots - Fermented carrots help the gut microbiome because they are rich in probiotics. Go for ones that DONT include vinegar as it won’t contain the necessary bacteria needed to feed your gut. Same with pickles or sauerkraut. opt for jars that say “brined”. Carrots are also high in fiber which is like steak and wine to good bacteria in your body. Not to mention characters, full of vitamins and nutrients!

I’ll definitely be posting more gut healthy foods on my page but for now, I hope this helps someone❣️
