How I accommodate my autism in the office

Two thirds of autistic adults are unemployed.

Every autistic person has different support needs and some may never be able to work, but I love working in my office.

The most important part of why it’s great is that I have wonderful coworkers and bosses who work with me instead of making me fit into their perfect idea of an employee. I see other neurodivergent people getting promoted and loved here.

I’ve been accommodated in other more formal ways but these are some of the things I do for myself to make the days easier.

I work in data entry so I’m putting numbers into a computer most of the day and this non-decision making work is ideal for me. I listen to music or podcasts while I work and get up to walk to the bathroom or kitchen as often as I want.
