Inner Child + PTSD

Hi🫶🏽

My name is Sam and I am living with PTSD. We are no stranger to that acronym. We all know someone who has that little bird on their shoulders.

I won’t dive into my sad, sad, poor me story — but rather I’ll share what my therapist has me working on in my alone time.

When she told me that I would be having meetings with my inner child and inner teen, I became squeamish. I remember thinking… “is she serious right now?”. I felt so silly closing my eyes, visualizing me until she spoke to me about how I saw myself. She guessed my younger self wouldn’t look at me, she was reserved. That’s when I knew it wasn’t some silly thing we would be doing.

My therapist has had me writing letters to younger me. I’ve struggled with the visualization aspect, so now I speak to her in letters. I empathize and apologize and love her. The most important part is recognizing her and what she went through and promising her she will get to be that child she never got to be. 🤍
