Why I Don’t Tell My Toddler No

I rarely use the word “no” with my 14 month old. I feel like no is an overused word and since my daughter is still young, she hasn’t fully understood the concept and meaning of no!

So instead of saying no, I explain why she can’t do something. Examples are “this is hot and can hurt you” or “acorns aren’t for eating, they come from the trees”.

I would be saying no a million times a day if I used that word and I feel like it wouldn’t hold its value!

There are some instances when I do say no, especially if she’s in imminent danger. Sometimes she’ll go to touch an outlet (even though there’s outlet covers) and I’ll say no, no, no!
