Did You Know This About C-Section Newborns?

Did you know that c-section babies have more fluid in their lungs? This can be scary for a first time parent, but if you know that it happens, you’ll be better prepared.

C-section babies have more fluid in their lungs than babies born via vaginal births. When a baby is born vaginally, the pressure helps push the fluid out. A c-section baby doesn’t experience the same pressure so they will have fluid that needs to be cleared for several hours or even days after.

A few hours after my daughter was born, it sounded like she was choking. My husband and I started freaking out but a nurse helped suction her mouth and got the fluid out. The next time it happened, we knew what to do and always had a suction on hand.

So if this happens to your baby, ask a nurse for help but also make sure you’re prepared to suction out the fluid from your newborn.
