Why I Don’t Say “Be Careful” to My Baby

I don’t say be careful to my baby when she is pulling to stand, climbing, or in a “dangerous” situation. Why? I don’t want to break her concentration.

By saying “be careful” when she’s in the middle of something, could cause her to get startled and she may fall. Instead, I let her take her lead and will be there to assist her if she needs me.

Of course if she was truly in a dangerous situation, I will remove her. Otherwise, I let her do dangerous things carefully and stay silent while she’s doing something.

I believe this is so important to build self confidence, independence, and to show her she can do things on her own! I will continue to do this as she gets older and is able to explore even more of her environment.
