I did a post before similar to this but it was more based in rules for the kids. This one is about my rules as a parent! I adore being a parent and love my children dearly. I will always do my best to raise them in confidence of themselves and stability in their environment.

Here are mom’s rules of parenting and a bit on why I chose them:

⭐️Thrifting⭐️ Fast fashion is a real problem that we try to avoid when we can. Not only that but kiddos grow out of clothes SO QUICKLY! It’s best for our family and we enjoy the hunt!

⭐️Gendered Clothing⭐️

We overall ignore it honestly. Pictures is my daughter in a boys overalls for “things that go” homeschool day and she looked ADORABLE! My son has worn “girl” shirts before as well. At the end of the day of the vibe fits or the kid likes it I just roll with it haha in my opinion it just doesn’t matter. Clothes are clothes and since we don’t send them to school bullying isn’t really a concern.

⭐️Autism Vest⭐️

This was a hard one for me. I knew it would make people look at him and myself differently and as someone with social anxiety that was really scary to me! But then there was a day where my son eloped and I had to call 911. I realized that no matter how vigilant I am, he could slip away by accident at any moment and so we bought this best. It has my number on it as well as his dad for safety since he is almost fully nonverbal and unable to communicate. We do get stares but I’d much much rather have stares than lose my baby boy.

⭐️Homeschool⭐️

Now this rule has some wiggle room but only based on the kids needs. If I have a kiddo that doesn’t flourish with in home schooling we’d be happy to give them the public school opportunity. This rule is more for me to stay focused. It is my job to be their teacher and I take it very seriously. When talking with school officials about homeschooling this is the goal I will set.

⭐️Bedtime⭐️

I don’t do any form of cry it out so during teething we get extra snuggles. If they take a long nap I let them stay up longer to get the wiggles (or rolling) out before bed. They’re little people and though keeping a routine is important so is understanding where they’re at during any given day.

⭐️No Lying⭐️

As a child, I was told Santa Claus and the tooth fairy all existed and it confused me a lot. I was a very logical child as well as neurodivergent so instead of putting my kids through confusion I’m not going to tell them anything. If they learn about it and ask me, I will ask them what they think and tell them that whatever they believe is valid for them to believe. Michael isn’t to raise the kid that screams at the playground that Sam is not real. My goal is to allow them to come to their own conclusions.

⭐️Anatomically Correct ⭐️

This might be one of the most important rules I have listed in my opinion. It is extremely important to me because often not teaching them allows wiggle room for predators to take advantage and your children not know what to tell others so I will be teaching my children very young, not only anatomically correct terms but also about good safe touch in bad unsafe touch. I’ve also heard professionals say that when a bad person hears that a kid knows the correct words they know it’s more likely they’ve been educated to tell.

⭐️ Conversation Over Punishment ⭐️

I was brought up in a very toxic household so when I found out I was pregnant. I started doing research on how to talk to children in a way that doesn’t damage their psychological development and through this research I found that discussion and honesty and calm is the best way to approach high anxiety or high intensity situations with your children so I do my absolute best to follow that.
