Why does the trans community get top surgery?

Understanding top surgery is key before diving into why the trans community chooses it. Top surgery involves procedures to create or remove breasts. For individuals assigned female at birth, the option to remove their breasts exists. Conversely, those assigned male at birth can choose to create breasts if desired.

During puberty, I noticed my breasts growing and it went beyond feeling uncomfortable in my own body. It was more of a moment where I felt like something wasn't right. As a child, I would sit and stare at myself in the mirror, imagining how I would look with a flat chest. This was before I even knew what being "gay" meant, so I definitely didn't learn it from anyone else.

In high school, I started learning more about different communities. I read online, watched videos, and educated myself. I found a connection with people who had similar experiences. As they grew, many of them pursued hormone replacement therapy or underwent top surgery.

Now, I identify as non-binary, so I don't really align with any specific gender. While I don't currently plan on getting full top surgery, I do plan on getting a breast reduction to make chest binding more comfortable at some point in my life.

Ultimately, people choose to create or remove breasts because it makes them feel more comfortable in their own bodies. It's similar to why some people get BBLs or face lifts. Personally, I wouldn't get a BBL or a face lift, but I absolutely won't judge those who do. Let's just let people be happy and live their lives, right?
