why you should read Crescent City

PSA: if you haven’t read A Court of Thornes and Roses or Throne of Glass, READ THOSE FIRST.

if you’re a fan of sarah j mass and have been wondering if her newest series is worth it, the answer is absolutely.

i was hesitant to read it at first because i wasn’t sure about the setting being more “modern” but that actually ended up being one of the things i loved about it most, it added an extra element of relatability to the characters. here are some of my favorite things about this series so far:

• FMC is beautifully flawed. Bryce (fmc) is extremely troubled and chaotic in a way that only makes her even more human. she’s difficult to like and/ or agree with at times but that makes her more understandable in the end. due to her raw struggles with substance abuse her narration isn’t always reliable which makes the storyline even more suspenseful. her character development is absolutely incredible and she quickly became one of my favorite characters.

• the plot line was extremely detailed and well thought out. whatever you think you know, you’re wrong. sarah j mass managed to surprise me at every single turn of the page and i couldn’t put it down. everything is connected in this series and her use of small details are amazing.

• this series does, of course, include a love interest but the main theme of the work (in my opinion) is friendship and forgiveness. she dove headfirst into the importance of loving others more than yourself at times and how it makes you a better person in the end.

• the characters dialogue is INFECTIOUS. i literally felt like i was hanging out with close friends while reading this. i felt included in a circle that no one knew about but me. you don’t feel like a fly on the wall reading this, you feel like a part of their conversations and inside jokes.

• the ending of this series will make you absolutely lose your mind at how everything comes together. if you’ve read her other work (which you should have first) then you’ll probably faint at the ending. it was better than anything i could’ve dreamed.

bottom line, GO READ THE BOOK.
