hello again 🍋 fam ~~

TL;DR I pursued a career as a preschool educator despite studying engineering

I am nervous yet excited to be sharing something personal about myself, but let's get to know me better ₊˚⊹♡

💭: I am in my early 20s and have been in the working field for the past 3 years. Entering the working field while most of my peers furthered their studies was very daunting to me. I often felt left behind and envious that they are "ahead" of me.

However, I knew instantly that I did not want to make a career of what I studied, during my internship. I was an Engineering polytechnic student who did a 3 months internship during my final semester. Getting to experience the real work life of a junior engineer, I felt very defeated. The work hours were long and the environment was mundane. Being in a male-dominated industry also prevented me from being the best version of myself and I disliked it. My peers also shared similar experiences during their internships and I figured that this was not meant for me in the long run. I enjoyed learning about my field but I was made for something else...

I've always had a passion for the early childhood sector and enjoyed teaching. It was known since I was a little kid and would always forced my brother to roleplay teacher and student. I used to volunteer at a preschool and read books to the children. I even did tutoring for my cousins. Thus, after graduating, I used my experience and applied for a job in the field.

My first official big girl job was as an infant educarer 👶🏼 ! Despite my short time at the centre, it was an eye-opening experience and I definitely wanted a career in this...

I moved to a better centre with better colleagues that helped me grow into the educator I am today. I joined as an assistant teacher and did my studies at the same time. The experience was exhausting but SO worth it. I was given many opportunities to showcase myself and I enjoyed the learning process. This field pushed me to become better everyday as the children are very great motivators. Seeing them smile and experience new things leaves a very satisfactory feeling. It took me awhile to finally become an English teacher but if ure looking for a sign to make a career switch, THIS IS IT ! not all days are good days but I am pursuing something that I enjoy and I pray that the spark will never die.

✨✨✨ On hindsight, it is okay to break out of societal norms. Don't worry about starting slow, worry about not starting. ✨✨✨

💌 this was a lengthy post but I hope everyone knows that it is fine to not be on the same journey as others. hola if ure a fellow preschool educator 👋🏻
