On the cusp of entering my 30s and after a few years of being battered by the workforce, I find myself drawn to slow living content. I’ve been into the slice-of-life kinda genre where it comes to books, and I really like the concept of returning to something simpler and doing an easier job in exchange for freedom / time (is that a sign I am burnt out by our corporate rat race?)

Aside from reading such books, I find myself captivated by such dramas too. If you’re like me and on the verge of a burnout or just wanna tangping (躺平) like the Chinese say, look no further. Here’re 4 Netflix recommendations that would make you crave a simple life in the countryside. Nope, no skyscrapers, enough of those. Welcome to the land where less is more and where nature heals:

🍿 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒌𝒆

An office staff quit her job after enduring being harassed and bullied at work and found peace and freedom in a small town. A tinge of mystery and thriller vibes at the side but mostly a warm summer-escapade-turned-slow-life. Exactly how I’d want my #summerdiary to look like — special shoutout to the cozy old school library and billard bar turned decrepit building.

🍿 𝑾𝒆𝒍𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒅𝒂𝒍-𝑹𝒊

A highly decorated yet hot-tempered Jeju-born, Seoul-based photographer finds herself sabotaged by her insecure assistant and returns to the peaceful embrace of her family in Jeju. Cue her childhood bestie, a professional meteorologist (JI CHANG WOOK 😍) who comes in and helps her get back her on her two feet, and who of course swept her away faster than the picturesque coastlines of her hometown.

I completely LOVED this from start to end. Materialistic but big-hearted Seoulite moves to a rural coast and gives back to society by opening the first dental clinic in the countryside, bumbles along and offends some people but later finds herself deeply attached to the place and the warmth of its people. Bonus: a vvvvv cute halmeoni trio who truly are #friendship goals

🍿 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒆

Ok this one’s not for binging, at least for the first half, because it progresses slowly. But it’s still on the list for because it couldn’t get more alive-of-life than this. Reserved cellist and music teacher finally gets sick of the chaebols and their rude parents, quits her job and moves back to the countryside in the deep of winter. Despite the snow coated peaceful countryside, you’ll be enveloped in warmth shared amongst the main cast in the cozy bookshop owned by the male protagonist. 100% reignited my dreams to open a bookshop 👌🏼 also great character development for almost all the characters - amazing~
