Sheik Zayed Mosque: What to Know Before You Go 🇦🇪

A true architectural and cultural marvel, visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is an absolute must when traveling to Dubai. Here’s some cool facts about the mosque + information to help plan your visit:

+ The mosque is the largest in the United Arab Emirates and 3rd largest in the world (after the mosques in Mecca & Medina, respectively).

+ It was named after Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who is considered the “Founding Father” of the U.A.E. He was also the country’s first President and he spear-headed the construction of the mosque.

+ The largest hand-knotted rug in the world is located in the mosque. It’s also famous for its three humongous Swarovski crystal chandeliers.

+ The architecture is a mix of Mughal, Ottoman, Andalusian, & Moroccan styles.

+ Dress code is strictly enforced. Women/femmes must have their heads, legs, arms, and torsos covered (most women/femmes wear an Abaya to accomplish this). Men/mascs must have shoulders and knees covered, and must not have any tattoos visible.
