Organizing The Ugly Stuff

We all love to organize the fun stuff in our homes. The pantry, our clothes closet, even the linens are easy and fun to get organized. But what about all the other stuff? The ugly stuff. Like the bathroom cleaning solutions, the bills, the plastic bags we can’t seem to throw away or recycle. Here’s how I keep all that un-fun stuff organized in my home.

Plastic bags. Why do we have a plastic bag filled with other plastic bags? They do come in handy (ours get used for emptying the litter box). Why not store them in a more eye pleasing way. Use a cloth grocery bag or any cloth bag you have around the house and tuck all those unsightly plastic ones inside. This also makes it easy to pull them out as needed.

Bills. All those papers that come into the house can create visual clutter that stresses us out. Use a white bin as a drop zone and if possible tuck the bin into a cupboard so it’s completely out of sight. Once a week pull the bin out and deal with the paperwork and then put it all away immediately after so it doesn’t weigh on your mind at the sight of it.

Small appliances. First step here is to get rid of as many as you can! We get pulled into the trend of a new small appliance coming out that promises to make our lives easier but really we are just left with having to store a clumsy kitchen item. Once you declutter this mess, designate one or two bottom cupboards to store the remaining items. Keep them off the counter tops, store them low so they are easy to use, and store them no more than two deep. This will keep them looking neat and orderly in the cupboard but will also make them easier to access.
