it all started in the elevator…

It was a Monday morning at 8am. I just got in the elevator- it was time for work. I was 21 and this was my second “big girl” job. Everyone was so happy for me… I negoitated a huge pay raise and was making $100K/yr before commission!

My coworker, an older woman who worked the front desk, got in the elevator. She turned to me and said “only 4 days until Friday”. And that’s when it hit me. I can’t do this.. I can’t be locked up in this office every day.. I don’t want to work for SOMEONE ELSES DREAM.

So I quit. I packed up my desk, put in my notice and never went back. Unprofessional? Yes. Necessary? Also yes.

I had no plan, barely any savings and not a clue what I was going to do next. But what I did know is that I would rather have FUN working FUN jobs that paid less than be miserable while making everyone else happy (hello, people pleasers).

I spent 9 months working odd end jobs to make ends meet. During that time, I was the happiest I’ve ever been. I was rested, curious, creative. I truly believe that happiness kickstarted the life I have today.

I’m 26, self employed and now make more than double my fancy corporate job. All by myself.
