looking to beat the crowds this year when picking which national parks to visit? Here’s three underrated (and uncrowded!) options that are each super unique:
⭐️North Cascades National Park
- one of the least-visited national parks in the US
- located about 2 hours north of Seattle
- beautiful forested trails, wildflowers bright blue lakes
- it’s a hiker’s dream!
- best time to go: July-September
- favorite trails: Maple Pass Loop (7.1 miles), Cascade Pass to Sahale Glacier (12 miles)
- 7 hours from Austin
- best time to visit: fall or spring when temps are mild
- three main sections to this park: Chisos Basin Mountains, Rio Grande River and Chihuahuan Desert
- it’s situated on the Texas/Mexico border!
- The Rio Grande River is the international border. This means that if you swim or kayak in the river, you are able to touch Mexico without a passport!
- favorite hikes: Lost Mine Trail (4.1 miles), Emory Peak (10 miles)
- 5 hours north of Los Angeles
- best time to visit: Winter, Spring or Fall
- California’s newest & smallest national park
- the park gets its name from the interesting spire rock formations formed by volcanic activity
- favorite trails: Bear Gulch Cave (1.5 miles) and High Peaks Trail (4.3 miles)
*Disclaimer: adventurous travel can be dangerous. Make sure you have all the right gear & fitness level before attempting any hike!
