I probably won’t get an answer, and that’s cool too.

I’m not trying to be mean or funny—I’m genuinely curious. I see tons of posts where people complain about being in toxic relationships or dealing with narcissistic friends, and they say these people have been a big part of their lives for years. But I don’t understand why or how people are keeping these kinds of people around them for so long, especially when these characters are such a problem that they end up posting about them online.

I mean, if somebody is really toxic… why not just cut them TF off full stop? Personally, I don’t keep people like that in my life; most of my friends have goals and ambitions, or are supportive of each other etc.

For me, it’s second nature to cut bad apples off if they try to crab me the first time, before there’s a theme or pattern of it. It’s like cutting a toenail, I don’t think about it, I just do it. Sometimes, I may not notice right away, then abruptly cut them off, when I see it… so it has never gotten to the point where I’m asking for advice on how to deal with them… because the problem already got solved in my mind.

Like toxic waste or rotting food, I wouldn’t leave it in my garbage can with other garbage piling on top of it, stinking up my whole house… I just take it out and throw it in the trash bin with all the other garbage, without even worrying about it further.

So, what is it about these toxic people to where they become integral enough to be IN your lives long enough to complain about? Are there redeeming qualities I’m not seeing? Just curious.
