Thanks to theNOVL and Little, Brown for the ARC! I just finished I’ll Be Waiting for You by Mariko Turk, and it’s a 5-star read that I devoured in a single day.

📖 Plot Overview:

Natalie and Imogen are best friends obsessed with the supernatural, except… Imogen actually believes in it, while Natalie just loves the thrill. After Imogen dies during their stay at a haunted resort, Natalie returns the next summer and starts experiencing strange, possibly supernatural occurrences. To make things even more interesting, there’s a new, very annoying guy at school who might actually grow on her. 👀

I was immediately hooked by the setting—Estes Park! I used to visit as a kid, so the nostalgia really pulled me in.

What I didn’t expect was how quickly the story grabs you. The first chapter ends with a major twist, and I was hooked. The cover, with its pink hues and hummingbirds, screams rom-com, but this book is far more than that. There’s romance, sure, but it’s also subtly spooky and emotionally charged.

The supernatural vibe is perfect for October—ghosts, hauntings, and a slow, eerie atmosphere. It’s not horror, but it’s just spooky enough to get you in your feels.

One of my favorite elements was how the book tackled grief. The idea that we’re haunted not by ghosts, but by memories and feelings that linger. It frames this “haunting” as a way to honor the person who’s gone, allowing them to stay with us in a meaningful, even positive way. This really hit home for me and made the book so much more than just a spooky story.
