SYIP LUZERNE | WORTH IT?

Have always wanted to try SYIP, specifically the Luzerne outlet cause of their Tiger Prawn Squid Ink Pasta. I first saw that dish on my friend’s instastory and as a huge prawn fan, I knew I wanted to try it some day… and I finally did!! Managed to head down for lunch and tried some of their signature items and here’s what I thought.

🦐 Tiger Prawn Squid Ink Pasta ($24) - 6/10

As mentioned, I was super excited to try this but sad to say, I was disappointed. Although the pasta was al dente and prawns were crunchy, something felt missing. The prawn bisque sauce was underwhelming - no flavour bomb, very bland. Everything was cooked well but there was nothing special. Honestly the prawns were abit small and for $24, I was expecting the portion to be abit more and everything to gel together but it didn’t. :’)

🍔 Mentaiko Shrimp Burger ($20) - 6/10

My friend tried this so here’s his review. Burger was alright. Nice crispy patty, though it was quite salty for my own liking. Nothing too special also and felt a bit overpriced. Was very disappointed with the tapioca chips. Tasted like those tapioca chips you can find in NTUC or Giant. Imagine paying so much and the sides just taste like regular cheap tapioca chips. Definitely not worth it's price tag.

🍰 Kailua Tiramisu ($12) - 4/10

This was the biggest let down. Tiramisu felt very overpriced cause the portion was just 3 ladyfingers with small dollops of mascarpone. It looks way bigger in pictures. For the price we paid, we were expecting at least 2 layers or it to be proportionately bigger in size. Can easily get better tiramisu elsewhere. Flavour wise, honestly speaking there isn’t anything special that sets it apart from other tiramisus despite it being their specialty.

So, was it worth it? - 5/10

Nice space with overpriced food. It's decent but I won’t specifically head down unless I’m near the area maybe. :,)
