Coming from a first time MacBook user 🤔💻

A few months ago, MacBook released their latest 2022 MacBook Air with M2 chip. They also introduced the new MacBook colour in midnight!!

My ancient Lenovo was dying on me so… I decided to splurge a little and make use of my student discount to buy myself my first MacBook 😋

Here’s my thoughts on it as a new MacBook user!

PROS:

1. THIN AND LIGHT 🤏🏼

Compared to the previous model, the new MacBook is 4.8mm thinner and 50g lighter. I like how easy it is to carry around without having to suffer from sore arms and stiff elbows👍🏼

2. AMAZING BATTERY LIFE 🔋

I have at least 30 tabs open in 3 different browser at one go. I separate them for school use/ personal use/ work use. Adding on the fact that I usually have adobe illustrator running in the background…

The battery life is amazing! According to Apple, it lasts over 16 hours between every charge. And it takes 2h15mins for it to fully charge.

3. GREAT SCREEN DISPLAY💻

For someone who does graphic design work, the screen display has great colour accuracy which makes my job much easier.

CONS:

1. A FINGERPRINT MAGNET ☝🏼🧲

I gave in to to the hype of Apple’s newly released colour but oh boy… this colour makes the surface slightly matte, so it collects all your greasy fingerprints ☹️ Despite the colour looking pretty, it’s a hassle to have to wipe down the laptop every hour you use it. But I ended up buying a clear laptop case so I guess it’s something I can tolerate.

2. ONLY TWO USB-C PORTS

Switching to a MacBook comes with a lot of added accessories I had to buy. Like an adaptor. This MacBook does not have any USB-A or SD card slot. It is quite limiting and inconvenient without an adaptor.

3. EXPENSIVE💸

Apparently the M2 MacBook is $200 more then the previous M1 MacBook. Under student discount (10%), I paid a total of $1,849 (extra $300 upgrade to 512GB)

Overall, I think it’s still a worthy investment! I heard good things about the longevity of Apple’s MacBook. And I’ll probably make this laptop last for the next 5 years🤭 For students, remember to log in under unidays for your 10% discount !!
