The more I practice in a very low distraction environment (ie home) with NO leash, and reward a focus on me, reward following me, reward walking by my side for ONE step, then 2 steps, then 3 steps….

Slow gradual progression reinforcing the VALUE of staying near me, focused on me…

It’s slow, it’s honestly boring sometimes, but it sets the expectation & tone for walks

It builds a strong positive association with YOU, so when your dog is faced with a distraction they are more likely to listen to YOU

These practice sessions can be 5-10mins few times a day during meal time or after work
