We finally tried the famous Warabimochi at their new outlet in Orchard! It’s in the previous OG building between Somerset & Dhouby.
Address:
📍160 Orchard Rd, Taste Orchard, #01 -02, Singapore 238842
The store is quite hidden, so not a lot of people might know about it 🤔 We ended up queuing for only less than 10 mins!
We ordered the 5 pcs box Warabimochi ($7.90) & a small Asakawa-En Matcha ($5.90)
The Warabimochi is very soft and chewy. It is covered in a soybean powder and comes w a Japanese black sugar syrup~ The powder added a very subtle & nice toasty fragrant 🤭 The overall is not overly sweet as well, which is what I prefer!
However, I feel that they could cut the mochi to smaller pieces as it was really chunky, so it can be quite hard to chew properly. Also, I feel that 5 pcs might be a little too much if you are sharing between 2 people, so you can consider getting the 2 pcs in a cup.
The Matcha is prepared w ceremonial-grade green tea powder. Thus, you get a v well-balanced combi of natural sweetness & bitterness. It is also topped w a dollop of fresh whipped cream. They also added bits and pieces of the Warabimochi as topping, which is definitely v enjoyable w the Matcha drink 😋
If you happen to pass by any of their outlets and the queue is not v long, you should give it a try! But if you have to queue for at least an hour, I feel that it might not be that worth your time as it wasn’t mind blowing-ly good 🫣
