Who says? Here are my picks for the month! #ThisorThat, you 🫵🏼 choose.

Starting with the one pictured the largest here:

✨ Miss Shampoo🧴🧼 (请问、还有哪里需要加强)

Genre: Rom-com

Overall rating: 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I just watched it hahaah. I’m a fan of novelist/director Giddens Ko (九把刀). You might know him from 那些年,我们一起追的女孩 (You Are The 🍎 Of My 👁️). If the actress looks familiar, she’s the lead in 我的少女时代 (Our Times)!

An apprentice in a hair salon 💇🏻‍♀️ encounters a run-in with a gangster one rainy night. Barely escaping with her help, he falls 😍 for her and tries to win her ❤️ whilst trying to find who’s after him. The movie was easy to watch; a simple storyline reminiscent of old-school love peppered with the usual slapstick humour of 九把刀. Maybe I’m biased, but this was a simple film done well ✅

My picks, lmk if you’ve watched and your take:

1. Lost In The ⭐️s (消失的她) WATCHED

Genre: Crime, Mystery, Thriller

Overall rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is available on Netflix!! Pacing was good, kept me in suspense throughout but I did feel that the ending was a lil anti-climatic.

An anniversary trip turns awry when a husband report his wife missing. Next day, he wakes up in the hotel next to a beautiful stranger claiming to be his wife. The trailer sold me tbh. Reminds me of a good Korean mystery drama.

2. No More 💵 Bets (孤注一掷)

Genre: Crime, Drama

Based on actual police cases on fraud, this film takes you in on the world of overseas cybercrime.

A programmer and a model get scammed by an overseas job recruiting ad and try to escape. An interesting dive at the industry that has crippled the lives of many.

3. No Hard Feelings WATCHED

Genre: Rom-com

Overall rating: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is also available on Netflix! It's humourous and watchable but not a show you've not seen before imo.

Jennifer Lawrence is finally back! This film’s from the same director who co-wrote comedy Bad Teacher. On the brink of losing her home, a women discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son before he leaves for college. To her surprise, Maddie soon discovers the awkward Percy is no sure thing.

4. Asteroid ☄️ City WATCHED

Genre: Comedy, Sci-fi, Slice of life

Overall rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Saw this on Disney+ ! I did enjoy this slow film, well-made by the great director.

Legend Wes Anderson’s latest 🎥 offering has finally landed! HAHA sry nt sry for pun. If you aren’t familiar, Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel) is famous for his saturated aesthetics, gorgeous sets and slow-paced slice of life films.

ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events. Usually quirky with deadpan humour, this star-studded film is not to be missed for film junkies.

5. Talk To Me

Genre: Horror

AN A24 FILM?!?? Take my money💰!!! This is the same company producing the likes of Everything Everywhere All At Once, Ladybird, The Whale 🐳, Minari and Uncut Gems 💎.

When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.

The trailer sold me; if you’re wondering what else to watch after The Nun II, watch this.

Thus concludes my roundup, you’re welcome! 😉
