but this might just be my own opinion (and my brother’s too)
we were quite excited to try out Umai Artisanal Udon Bar especially my bro who is a big udon lover but we left feeling quite disappointed
it opened at 11:30am and the seats were filled up quite quickly with many office workers having their lunch here
the menu is very extensive (for example the mini ebi had two different variations — dynamite shrimp (spicy) and ebi mayonnaise (wafu flavoured)
the ebi was good and the prawns were meaty and crispy, my fave dish of the day
honey citron tea was normal, nothing out of the extraordinary (of course because how different can honey citron taste LOL) bonus was that the design of the cup was really cute
the butayaki don was relatively ok too, pork was sweet and well seasoned with caramelised onions
now moving on to the udons: idk if it’s just me but i really expected the carbonara to have a thicker sauce to it and maybe chewier noodle texture. however the sauce felt a bit too watery for my liking and would get sian of eating it after a few bites as the cheese taste was very very strong. the noodles were a bit too soft and didn’t have the qq feeling which i imagined
the fiery black pepper was described on the menu to have sichuan teriyaki sauce, so i thought it’ll have a slight spicy kick to it but nope it was just peppery. even though the vegetable were really quite nice, there was much more veges than noodle and it was honestly not very filling
for the price point i would have expected slightly more noodles
overall i would rate this a 6/10 and imo it’s overhyped but yup surely worth a try, once is enuf tho !
