Watch us build our first garden together!!

So we have attempted to grow a garden but it never really worked out well. Mostly because we never did our research and because we both had crazy schedules that would leave us super tired and unmotivated.

Well this year is different! I love to garden and I’m super excited to do it right! Now I know we could’ve done it cheaper. There are great TikTok hacks on how to build vertical beds, using fence posts, etc. However with our lifestyle, we needed beds that will withstand a long time and won’t be so close to the ground that one of our children (my dog Ruby) won’t destroy it.

This was TOTALLY a learning process!! I feel like $160 for the wood on two beds is not a bad price at all! I think for everything we have spent $350 so far. That only includes wood, screws, brackets/plate things to hold each layer, screws for brackets, wood sealer, and flex seal…. I still need dirt!

I’m using the hugelkultur method to fill the beds. This week I have laid down the cardboard and filled up my sticks that I have been saving. I only have 1 bed so far and I used them all up… next will be the leaves and then compost/dirt. We have a few more freezes coming up in our forecast so I won’t be planting just yet. I alway go by the “Don’t plant this April 15th” rule!
