Ideas for a DIY Maternity Photo Shoot

My first pregnancy I was so overwhelmed with all the changes that was happening that I didn’t really take the time to enjoy those nine months and do things like take maternity photos. Of course I had the handful of mirror selfies and half naked shots of my belly when I got out of the shower, but most of those will never make it to a baby book or framed in the baby’s bedroom. So for my second pregnancy I really wanted to make a point to take more maternity photos that I loved, photos that were just for me but could still be shared if I wanted to. And you don’t need a professional photographer to make this happen! Just a tripod or something to lean your camera or phone on. Most of these were taken on my Iphone and edited in Lightroom. I also highly recommend waiting until the lighting is right to take the photos. Natural lighting indoors makes all the difference and can turn an awkward selfie photo into a true masterpiece. I like to use midday natural light and standing next to a large window if possible. Ask a friend to help you out to as most of these can be done in the comfort of your own home.  Otherwise, set a timer, shoot 100 shots and out of that you will surely find at least one that you love!
