If you are deciding whether to buy an eReader or the golden question KOBO VS KINDLE then this post is for you!
I’ve always loved reading since I was a kid! 🤓 #bookworm my mum once found me hiding from all my friends and reading by myself at my 10th birthday party HAHA i continued reading well into my teens (i took lit for O levels OK) but i got caught up with the hustle and bustle of med school and i stopped reading for a long time 🥺
it was such a huge part of my identity and every time ppl ask what i do for my hobby and i say reading but actually i never read for so long.. imposter! in MO year 1 i had abit more time and got back into reading but carrying the physical books around rly added weight to my already heavy handbag. and also i’m a damn fast reader so some days i find myself stuck with nth to read and a damn heavy bag
at that time i considered getting an eReader. plus points: light, can store as many books as i want for the same weight, read for free (elaborate later on), no need to care about storage for the books. BUT i love the smell and touch of books sooo much 🥺🥺🥺 eventually decided to take the plunge and get the eReader and I went for KOBO over the more popular/well-known kindle cos of my next point
I GET TO READ FOR FREEEE! book r rly quite ex ok like $20-30/book - it really adds up! basically kobo supports Overdrive, which allows you to borrow books from our NLB app LIBBY! i feel like this is something not many ppl know about. the app is super easy to use, and u can also borrow audiobooks too if that’s your thing. you can borrow up to like i think 14 books at once? for 21 days each. if nobody else borrowing the book after you, you can also extend the loan for another 7 days. sometimes for the popular books might need to wait a while. how it works is that the elibrary will have a set number of copies that they can loan out at any one time then you just join the queue! longest i’ve waited for a book was maybe 4 weeks. but not much of a biggie la because there’s so many other books to read
so u just buy one kobo and then read for free on libby it’s basically like i paid $300 for a book buffet LOL and I’ve read 225 books since July 2022 (you can do the maths - it’s like $1.30 per book wutttt and it’ll only get cheaper the more I read!!!). the kobo itself is v comfortable to read on, doesn’t strain my eyes. can adjust the lighting/font size. can also add highlights and search the meaning of the words from the device itself. it’s rly hands down my best buy of 2022, i rank it above even my branded bags so it’s saying a lot HAHA it’s so light and convenient to bring around and I read it every chance I get eg on public transport, in between my OT cases, while i’m getting my pedicure etc etc
oh and!!! it’s water resistant so like after a bad day at work, i will soak in my bathtub with my kobo hehe. also don’t bother getting the kobo casing la, can just buy from shoppee, the quality is about the same haha.
