DIY matchbook frame

I’ve been collecting matchbooks for a bit now and wanted to find a way to display them since the pile was getting to be too big. I was brainstorming until i found a tiktok of someone putting them into a shadow box. I’m not kidding when i say i got on the next bus to michaels to pick up super glue and a shadow box!

Since the matchbooks were collected from Chicago places, they were free but if you don’t live in a city you can order sets off of etsy. The super glue was $8, some scrapbooking paper for behind the matches was $5, and the shadow boxes came in a set of two for $30, so in total this DIY costs about $45 to make!!

HOW TO:

Step 1: pick up needed supplies

Step 2: cut scrapbook paper to size (if needed)

Step 3: layout the matchbooks on the scrapbook (before glueing!!) This took me a few rounds of deciding how i wanted it laid out. I also wanted some matches on the page itself to add different sizes and shapes

Step 4: start gluing! I started from the corners in but i don’t think there’s a ‘perfect’ starting point

Step 5: allow glue to fully dry, hangup wherever you want!

When I first started this project I didn’t have enough matchbooks I wanted to display in here so I had to wait until I got more. Since I don’t have any patience, i glued down what i had at that time. I wouldn’t recommend this since I wasn’t able to fully plan the layout. Since I have another shadow box though I might end up doing another one as a gift or for my room!
