Can Rebonded Hair still be Perm?

This is one of the most common questions asked for ladies who are sick of their straight hair and would like to go for curls now instead.

So can rebonded hair still be permed?

It depends on a few factors:

1. How straight your rebonding was previously done? Was it stiff straight or soft rebonding? If you have plans to perm your hair, we will usually advise to do soft rebonding, so that the hair can still have the chance of being permed after.

2. How many times was the same stretch of hair rebonded. If the same stretch of hair has been rebonded a few times, likely the hair can’t be permed as it has been pulled straight many times. Thus we advise to just touch up the roots for rebonding instead of repeatedly rebonding the whole hair.

3. Condition of the hair. Is your hair elasticity still strong and healthy for a perm or is your hair very dry?

If your hair elasticity is still good, the hair is still able to perm after a rebonding session (provided condition 1. And 2. Above has been fulfilled)

Lastly also note for rebonded hair when perm

⚠️ Previously rebonded hair is not suitable for cold perm. Rebonded hair can only opt for a Hot perm aka digital perm.

Cause previously during rebonding a “hot” process has been done to create a “shape” for the hair. So now to recreate it into a new shape, it has to go through another “hot” process, which is a digital perm (hot perm)

Also the digital machine temperature used this time needs to be higher than the rebonding iron. Otherwise the curls will only come out when it is wet, but when it is dry, the curls will loosen out.
