I regretted my luxury bags

Once upon a time, I was not someone who chased after luxury goods. Rationally, why spend hundreds or thousands on a bag to put barely anything much? It wasn’t not too long ago where I will think twice thrice and more times before I get a simple Michael Kors bag costing over $200-$300.

▶️ Case in point, I do not come from a wealthy family and never had any of such “loud” friends or family members splurging on the atas side of life. It was only until I met my bf and was introduced to his family who own such luxury goods that I felt a little inferior. And that’s where things go spiralling down. Since I could afford it & eat grass after, why not just buy something?

Moral of story: ⛔️ do not be socially pressured to buy luxury goods to fit with someone or the environment.

▶️ I could have stopped at 1, 2 or heck, even the third piece. I went on to buy and buy and buy. Right now, I’m still even eyeing on a chanel boy but have been resisting it for over a year. What I’m trying to say here is, you will only really stop buying one more bag when you found THE ONE ✨ that’s what you will be able to resist the temptations.

Moral of story: 💭 think before your purchase, especially when it’s 4 or 5 figure. Otherwise you will keep wanting more and more because you aren’t satisfied with your current collection. I regretted some bags, and it didn’t matter if it’s LV Chanel Dior or whatever brand. You need the right design that will be the most appropriate for yourself. Do not blindly follow trends.

▶️ how to select a bag

1. Choose basic / neutral colours

• classic black never goes out of style

• find a neutral colour to match most of your outfits

• avoid colours that get dirtied easily like white where possible (unless u will baby it)

2. Material selection (quality)

• caviar/ pebbled leather tend to be more scratch resistant but can weigh heavier and gives a more structured look

• lambskin is very tricky, you gotta baby it!!! Else a scratch or hole will destroy the look :( but a classic lady dior must be lambskin 😍

• canvas leather are softer and not as easily worn out than lambskin even if you don’t exercise big care for it (like LV)

** do note the bag’s interior also plays a part in your selection!! **

3. Shape & size

• a rectangle bag is the most popular since you can fit your wallet, tissue, cards etc while minimising wasted space

• avoid odd shape bags like Dior saddle bag. just imagine & you will understand why.

• for what situation are you envisioning yourself to use the bag? a casual day out? dinner dates? work? don’t buy a bag which you will barely use it or touch only once a year

4. resale value

** I do not think this is the most critical item to look out for or for consideration but if you are someone who easily gets bored of styles, and intend to sell your bag in the future, this is a point you must consider.

E.g Chanel and Hermes holds value the best currently imo

5. Brand reputation

• again, not important but I do know people will say, I want a Chanel bag, I want goyard etc etc. pick what u like instead of following the crowd.

** although goyard is crazy popular, I can’t justify the ugliness of it & sloppy bag shapes which looks deadbeat auntie. I wouldn’t spend over 3k to “TRY” the bag LOL, not to mention the queue and limited quantity available in store.

Chanel Classic Double Flap Bag is a ✨ MUST ✨ buy. It’s a super versatile bag which is suitable for both casual and classic events. Out of all my branded bags, I use this bag the most even though it’s the most expensive one. I’m not afraid of bringing it out and worried it being “scratched” since I got the caviar leather bag. It doubles up as a sling bag, shoulder bag, handcarry EVERYTHING. it’s my go to 🥹 given the number of times I have used it divided by the price tag, the per use $$ is lesser cause #girlmath (like renting it from stores YET not owning it is sad)

Since I’m petite frame at 158cm, the small (20cm) bag is perfect for me. I tried the medium size before (25cm) and found it a wew big on me.

✋🏻 Honourable mention goes to my LV Vanity Bag 💕

Looks small but the capacity is quite big!! Bigger than Chanel one I feel due to the material and shape of it. It’s the perfect slingback length for me as well (Chanel is slightly shorter).

One thing I dislike it, why the hardware and leather chain strap press on my skin 😮‍💨 pain sia… can’t wear sleeveless when I carry that bag else I will have the chain marks haha but is ok, cute de!
