On Sunday, my boyfriend and I got invited to his cousin’s birthday party at a winery two hours away. We had the option to leave our daughter with my mother-in-law for the day… but I chose to bring her.

Here’s why!

1. I want her to experience the world.

Bringing your children out in the world to experience new settings, new people, and new experiences, helps shape them. Babies learn so much by just absorbing everything around them. Children need to experience new places, people, and culture in order to become open-minded, well-rounded humans. That being said, I don’t want her to miss out on valuable experiences.

2. I don’t want her to think she isn’t important.

Growing up, I felt I wasn’t a priority to my parents. My mom went out a lot and my siblings and I were left with relatives or a babysitter. Of course, adults need time away every once in a while without kids, but it can easily turn into your kids feeling unwanted and unimportant if you leave them frequently. I don’t want my daughter to ever feel like she’s not important enough to come to events with us. She is an important piece of our family and deserves to have fun too. I love being around my daughter and I am making sure she knows that!

*My boyfriend and I go out to dinner every once in a while for a date night where we leave our daughter with my MIL for a few hours. Couples time is essential for keeping a happy home. For family events, however, she is always coming with us!

3. I feel less stressed.

I feel so much more relaxed when my daughter is with us. I know she is safe, so I am able to have a good time without constantly checking in to see how she’s doing.

Mom, what are your thoughts?
