Grab a basket or cart

a.     Be prepared to be fully “booked” and loaded!

2.     Head to the Category you want – to save time go in with a plan especially if you’ve visited this particular shop before.

3.     Take a second look. Check the condition of the book.

a.     Remove the cover to see what’s underneath.

b.     Check to see if it is overly underlined or highlighted.

c.     Check if it is in good condition.

4.     Compare prices

a.     Other bookstore may be having a sale and selling the same book for a cheaper price.

5.     Look for unique finds

a.     I think the best part about thrifting for me is finding books that you would not usually find at commercial bookstores. Some finds are limited editions, embossed or stylised texts, part of a collectible series, signed copies etc.

6.     Clean down your books- I carry wipes with me so I give the books a wipe down before purchasing. Some books shops ensure their books are dusted/cleaned but others don’t so check that beforehand.

7.     Check for a rewards program- so you can take advantage of discounts next time you visit or earn points for being in the program.
