My Honest Thoughts on Assistant to the Villain

i was so excited to start this book because of how many positive reviews i have seen! i loved the fact that the book was written by an author who got popular on tiktok. HOWEVER this book simply just wasn’t for me…

i went into this book knowing that it was a little bit more comedic than some other fantasies i’ve read and overall should be taken in a light hearted way. i honestly wasn’t ready for the fact that the book felt very very Y/A to me so do not go into this thinking it’s an adult fantasy. i personally didn’t love Evie’s character. i often cringed at a lot of her moments.

even though i didn’t love Evie’s character i really liked the Villain and his pov. i often found myself enjoying his parts of the book and his story more than Evie’s. i also really loved the short chapters. this made my reading experience a lot better because it felt like i was making a lot of progress even if i didn’t love the book.

overall this book was a 2.5 ⭐️ for me. i didn’t really love the sense of humor that was incorporated (some people might enjoy it but it just wants my style!) i don’t think i’ll be continuing this story despite me liking the Villain and his story but i’m glad i gave it a shot!
