After almost a decade in the office work environment, I have found that these 5 skills are highly valued by employers and will enable you to deliver beneficial results for the company as well as your own personal growth. 📈💻

1. Organization 📒

I think that the number 1 workplace skill is staying organized. There's always 100 things to do, and you definitely need to be able to note down all your tasks in a to-do list and constantly prioritize them. With the pareto principle, 20% of your work delivers 80% of the value, so be sure to identify the important tasks and have sufficient time to complete them.

Finish reading all your emails so you don't miss out anything, be known as the person who gets things done and deliver what u say, as this helps build trust and good reputation within your current company and beyond.

2. Collaboration 🤝

Are you able to work well in a team? You don't have to be friends with everyone at work, but employers need us to work together as we can achieve bigger better things as a team rather than with 1 person alone. It is also an opportunity for you to showcase your expertise and leadership skills.

3. Problem-solving 🤓

An important thing I learnt was to always go to your boss with solutions - they appreciate it, and you immediately stand out from doing so. In the course of your work, you can't keep approaching your boss for every problem you face. Having some creativity in tackling problems on your own and then informing your boss how you handled the situation will give you lots more bonus points in your boss's books.

4. Communication 🗣

Communication is key (be it verbal or written). With good comm skills, you can articulate clearly what u require and provide clear instructions for things to be done. It is also essential to communicate your value, work, and achievements to your boss and the key people in the company in order for future progression.

5. Self-motivation 💪

Do you have the passion and drive at work? Are you willing to learn and grow, step out of your comfort zone, and try new challenges? Are you disciplined enough to follow through and achieve your goals? This positive attitude will be easily noticed by bosses. Not only will you constantly improve, I believe that recognition and reward will come as well.
