1. WHY HANA?

As a fan of Japanese cuisine, I have always been intrigued by the concept of omakase. Omakase is a Japanese dining experience where the chef👨‍🍳 chooses the dishes for you, based on what is fresh and in season. So, for my birthday, I decided to try omakase for the first time at Hana restaurant, a popular sushi spot in town. Their omakase set is within our budget as well.

2. FIRST IMPRESSIONS

When my husband and I arrived at Hana, we were greeted by a dark Japanese vibe that was both chic and cozy. We were excited for the 15-course omakase, and so we decided to order both the $38 and $58 omakase sets to share.

As the dishes started to arrive, we were amazed by how bright and colourful they were. The waiters served and explained each dish, while the chef remained in the kitchen. Although we were not able to interact with the chef, we could tell that each dish was carefully prepared and plated.

3. FOOD REVIEW

The sashimi was particularly impressive, with each slice of fish so soft and fresh that it practically melted in our mouths. The grilled scallop and lobster mentaiko was also a standout dish, with the tender scallop complemented perfectly by the rich, creamy mentaiko sauce.

Another dish that we enjoyed was the butter clams, which were cooked to perfection and had a lovely savoury flavour.

4. FINAL THOUGHTS

To be honest, my husband felt that the portion sizes were a bit small, and he was still feeling hungry at the end of the experience. So, we decided to look for more food elsewhere.

Despite this, we both agreed that the food at Hana was incredibly fresh and delicious. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an affordable omakase experience, especially for those who want to try a wide variety of dishes.

In conclusion, my first omakase experience at Hana restaurant was a memorable one. The ambience and decor of the restaurant added to the overall experience, and the food was outstanding. Although the portion sizes were on the smaller side, the freshness and quality of the dishes made up for it. We are already planning our next visit to Hana, and this time, we will try their flying noodle! 🍜
