Being a corporate girlie means being able to finally travel during autumn to catch the maple leaves! Nagano Prefecture is usually known for skiing/snowboarding in winter, but autumn is also so worth the visit. Momijis in this region start from late September at the higher altitudes, making their way down through October until early November. Here are our favourite spots for momijis during #MyFirst fall trip in early November π
1οΈβ£ Lake Momiji
Not to be confused with Lake Kawaguchiβs maple corridor, this spot is a nice little park that boasts more than 10,000 maple trees. We spent an hour here walking around admiring the views, snapping away to capture as much of the beauty as we could.
πAddress: Minowa Dam (Higashiminowa, Minowa, Kamiina District, Nagano 399-4602, Japan)
π Best way to get there is by car, as there arenβt any public transport nearby. During the momiji event (it was 1-8 November in 2023), there will be dedicated parking spaces so do remember to reserve your spot online for Β₯1500.
2οΈβ£ Kumoba Pond
This spot is situated in Karuizawa, a chill resort town in Nagano. Taking a walk around the perimeter of the pond only takes 10 mins (~550m), but one can also opt for a longer loop that takes 20 mins.
πAddress: KyΕ«karuizawa-1181-4 Karuizawa, Kitasaku District, Nagano 389-0102, Japan
π There are no parking spots at the pond itself. We parked along the Old Karuizawa Ginzan Street about 15 mins walk away for Β₯800, and took a stroll along the cobbled street lined with artisan shops on the way to the pond.
3οΈβ£ Sesui-ji Temple
Unlike the previous two spots, this one barely had any tourists! It might be because it was a little out of the way, or maybe because it was pretty small, but we loved the tranquility! It also gave us a view of pink maple leaves, which we had never seen elsewhere.
πAddress: 1949 Wakahohoshina, Nagano, 381-0102, Japan
π There was a free parking spot right in front of the temple.
π· Pro tip: Climb up the stairway beyond the intersection, to be greeted with a view of all the maple trees stacking against each other to form the perfect frame!
I would highly recommend combining these momiji spots together with places to visit in the Japanese Alps for an epic fall getaway in Nagano ποΈ
