student diaries ep. 2: internship scouting tips!🕴

internships – it can be pretty scary 🤨 i started my first internship fresh out of secondary school, while waiting for poly, and i worked with little to no knowledge of the field but here i am now, in my final poly internship. i definitely sacrificed many holidays but i don’t regret it~ 🕰

so, how did i get these internships 🚪– with no experience, it was difficult to find one. i reached out to some family friends who had open job opportunities, but once i started building my portfolio and my resume, i applied to many firms and even received multiple offers at once. ☎️ it isn’t so much about being academically proficient, but you should generally have a diverse portfolio of your passions.

attitude and character is so important - have a genuine enthusiasm and passion for working in that field or company, or at least show that you are eager to learn, and have an open mind. (i could do another post on interview tips, if anyone wants it) 🪫

some final tips 💡– you may not get a lot of money or even be able to negotiate your pay depending on the field of work you’re in, but it’s about the valuable learning experience, so remember that! having more internship experiences can go a long way in your year 3 poly internship, so if you’re willing to sacrifice a week or two, take on an internship this coming holiday! ⚖️
