Here’s what you should eat in Japan.

If you're travelling to Japan, I'm sure you know that Japanese conbinis (convenience stores) are a haven for quick, easy and delicious meals. But, you should STOP eating only food from conbinis. Immerse yourself into Japanese culture and walk into hole-in-the-wall food joints!

Here's what we tried:

✨Gyukatsu Motomura, Japanese Sirloin Katsu 9/10✨

Multiple outlets all over Japan

✅ Beef was high quality and had good marbling

✅ Comes with a number of dips and sauces that enhanced the flavours of the meat

✅ You can cook the beef to your desired doneness with the hot stone

✨Hanamaru Udon Nidori Nagano, Beef Udon and Assorted Tempura 8/10✨

Nagano JR Station

✅ Umami-filled broth

✅ Tempura was light and crispy, pairs well with the Udon

✅ Beef was well seasoned and tender

✨Matumi Syokudou, Pork Katsu Curry 9/10✨

Hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Yamanouchi

✅ Serving was generous, good to share with 2-3 pax.

✅ Curry was smooth and filled with potatoes and carrots

✅ Katsu was meaty and crispy

Japan has many hidden gems waiting for you to uncover them, take a walk and discover the amazing restaurants hidden in plain sight. Do be prepared for these restaurants to have full Japanese menus especially if you're in the outskirts, this is where your cai fan ordering skills come in, just point to what looks good and your tastebuds will thank you.
