Fresh off my trip to Thailand, here is a (non-exhaustive) list of eats in bangkok that have been approved by my Thai friends. They were the ones to actually suggest these places to me, so I think they’re pretty worth checking out. And I promise you that my friends are all local thais who know that I’ve been to bangkok multiple times, and promised me to bring me to places that aren’t complete tourist traps:

✅ Somtamnua

📍 Location: two outlets, I went to 392, 12-14 Rama I Rd, Khwaeng Pathum Wan, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330

⏰ Operating Hours: 11 AM - 9 PM daily

Oh this was a WINNER. I am not the biggest fan of somtam, so I was a bit nervous when my friend suggested this place that was known for its somtam. I was pleasantly surprised. The standout dishes were its grilled pork neck and the Phad Khanom Jeen (Stirred fried noodle with pork floss). It’s served warm and perfect for people who love the somtam flavour but not a fan of green papaya salad. I absolutely loved this place and 10/10 will return solely for the Phad Khanom Jeen.

✅ Kub Kao Kub Pla

📍 Location: multiple outlets, I went to the Siam Paragon one which is สยามพารากอน ชั้น G, เลขที่ 991 Rama I Rd, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330

⏰ Operating Hours: 10 AM – 9 PM (Sunday - Friday), 9:30 PM (Sunday)

Loved by both locals and tourists alike! A Thai friend told me that the taste is pretty authentic. They started out from a local eatery and eventually expanded into the chain it is today. However as most of their outlets are in malls, so expect the price to be a little steeper than small mom and pop eateries. The food is good tho. My friend recommends the turmeric fried pork, which I agree was delicious.

✅ Luk Kai Thong

📍 Location: Multiple locations, the one I went to was Suvarnabhumi Airport Gate F DFS Mall 999 หมู่ที่ 1 Suvarnabhumi 3 Rd, Nong Prue, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan 10540

⏰ Operating Hours: 24 hours daily!!! 💀

This is a Michelin guide pick for four years? For good reason. They’re most know for their Stew Pork Belly with Pickled Vegetables and Grilled Steamed Buns (basically Kong Ba Bao) as well as their famous Pangsha – Thai iced tea flavoured shaved ice. The Thai tea here is rich, thick and very delicious. However, this was extremely expensive. Not sure if it’s because we ate this at the airport, but we spent close to $100 SGD for two dishes and two drinks… 💀💀💀 It was good tho. Their version of kong ba bao was sooo good, and their crayfish with garlic was so much better than Here Hai LOL. But beware of the price.

✅ Pranakorn Noodle Restaurant

📍 Location: multiple outlets, the one I went to was this เลขที่444อาคารMBK CENTER ห้องเลขที่ PLA.F05.A002000ชั้น5 Phaya Thai Rd, Wang Mai, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330

⏰ Operating Hours: 10 AM - 8 PM daily

Not sure if this is a chain, but a pretty authentic boat noodle place. Located in MBK, it is convenient and is full of locals. I absolutely loved the beef soup noodles. The fried pork wontons were also delicious with its accompanying sweet chilli sauce. However as it is a boat noodle place, expect small portions, and be ready to order tons of bowls of different noodle configurations for that insta-worthy shot.

🤩 A special shout-out to Jeh O Chula, because it was suggested by two different people, and when I went, there was actually a good mix of both locals and tourists.
