going to korea for winter school? hesitating if you should apply for korea winter school? this post is for you ☃️

I went korea university last winter to map statistics and honestly I had no regrets 🙂 I went there 2 weeks before school started and travelled around busan and jeju for a week (went back and fro via plane, not a good idea) and seoul for a week with my mutual friends. during the 3 weeks of school, I made some new friends from dorm, as well as programmes offered by the school, and also hung out with my friends 😆

here's some tips that I would like to share with y'all and also things that I probably have regretted and don't want y'all to make the same mistake as me 😞:

1. explore outside your comfort zone 🫣

be it trying new food, doing activities that aren't within your comfort zone, just do it! you have paid so much so you should just go all out and enjoy yourself (ofcourse don't force yourself to do things that you hate). I went skiing even though I was scared and honestly it was very fun XD I would probably not do it again but no regrets! I also tried raw octopus and beef and honestly the raw octopus was very mid. but the raw beef was so good, no regrets trying! if you're not on tight budget, you should also just go on cafe hopping because korea cafes really have the vibes and good food 😝

2. it's okay to travel alone 😀

I flew to and fro seoul myself and it was my first time doing it. honestly it was very scary at the beginning because it has been so long since I travelled and I could not expect anything but the worse (like getting stucked at the customs or what not). but honestly it wasn't so bad and pretty nice! you don't have to accommodate to anyone's schedule and you can do anything you like! same goes to travelling in korea alone and eating yourself! honestly, it can be intimidating at the beginning but it's actually safe and there are some shops with individual seating, great for solo diners :p even if they don't have, it's okay to eat alone, I did it and nobody judge me. and it's okay if they judge because who are they to judge you if you paid right 😙

3. make new friends! 💛

although most of them attended school with their friends, some went alone and most are open to making new friends! I met some great people from dorm and ku's free lotte world outing and it has honestly zenged my experience 🙂 it has broaden my perspectives as I got to interact with people from us and china, which was pretty cool ngl

4. travel outside of seoul 🚋

I honestly find seoul pretty boring and if given another choice, I'll probably stay in busan for a week instead of half a week. and perhaps travel to the nearby areas like suwon and jeonju. seoul is like singapore and pretty fast paced. busan is like a slower paced version of seoul but with beautiful beaches and tourist attractions (you will love it if you like nature!) really need to come up with a thorough plan to max out your experience 😀

5. attend year end concert ✨

it was actually a dream come true for me as a kpop fan, as I have only watched this on my laptop and not irl. tbh the experience wasn't great per say because I wasn't a big fan of all the idols and there was alot of gaps. plus koreans typically don't shout during concerts, so it wasnt as hyped as I would prefer :-') regardless, it was a cool and once in a lifetime experience! I think we got it from creatrip and it was close to 300 per tix, and we didn't get to choose our seats. but it was a front cat seat (still far from stage) but pretty good compared to the seats behind!

overall it was a great trip~ good food, good company, and most importantly I got to skip statistics in sch 😆 if you have the chance, do go and jio your friends! if not, you can always look for fellow schmates online who are also looking for friends to go or make friends when you're there 🌞

ps if you're planning to go ku, take note that the dorms are on a hill and there's alot of climbing to do if you're planning to stay there 😉

do let me know if y'all want me to share any more things with y'all regarding korea winter school or korea in general! (oya, stay warm!) 🥵
